  Getting started

Matrix is a suite of tools that supercharges Jimdo websites, created by a well-known Jimdo-community developer. It comes in three products — the Plugin Toolkit, Matrix One, and Matrix Framework — so you can start simple and grow into more advanced tools whenever you're ready.

Start with the free Plugin Toolkit. It installs on any default Jimdo template in minutes, so you can see exactly how Matrix works on your own site with zero commitment. If you like it, upgrade to Pro to unlock all sections and widgets — plus updates and support.

There's no risk. If Matrix isn't the right fit or doesn't meet your expectations, you can request a refund. We'd rather you be genuinely happy with the tool than keep a subscription you don't use.

Jimdo site owners, freelancers, and agencies who want more design freedom than the default editor — from beginners trying the free Toolkit to professionals building with the modern Framework.

No. Everything is visual — install a snippet once, then use menus, drag-and-drop building, and ready-made helper classes. Developers can still add custom CSS or HTML when they want finer control.

  The three products

The Plugin Toolkit is the free, easy way to add Matrix to any default Jimdo template and try it out. Matrix One (formerly Matrix Themes) is the original jQuery-based system built on custom layouts, proven over 13+ years. Matrix Framework is the new generation — modern, jQuery-free tools like the Page Builder and Style Editor. Most newcomers start with the Toolkit and move to the Framework for the modern workflow.

The Plugin Toolkit extends and customizes your Jimdo site through a custom admin menu with widgets, tools, and plugins. It's free to install on any default Jimdo template, and once you're happy you can upgrade to Pro to unlock all sections and widgets.

Matrix One — formerly Matrix Themes — is the original Jimdo enhancement toolkit, built on custom layouts and jQuery plugins (WOW.js, Animate.css, Jarallax). With 80+ animation effects, fluid sections, and 13+ years of production testing, it's the proven, reliable choice.

Matrix Framework is the modern, jQuery-free generation of tools — a drag-and-drop Page Builder, a visual Style Editor, reusable widgets, and admin tools like Site Health. It's the right choice if you want the latest technology and workflow.

If you're new, install the free Plugin Toolkit first and explore it on your default template. Already using custom layout with previous Matrix Themes? Choose Matrix One. Want the most modern, code-free tools? Choose Matrix Framework. You can always start small and upgrade later.

  Matrix vs other builders

Matrix brings a similar modern, design-first experience to Jimdo — rich animations, fluid sections, and a visual page builder — without leaving your site or learning a whole new platform. You get Webflow-style polish and motion with the simplicity of Jimdo hosting and editing.

Yes — intentionally. The Matrix Page Builder will feel familiar to anyone who's used Elementor: sections, columns, drag-and-drop widgets, and a toolbar-based workflow. If you already know Elementor, you'll be productive in minutes.

Absolutely. Think of the Matrix builder as a simplified version of Elementor. You learn the same core concepts — sections, columns, and widgets — in a cleaner, less overwhelming interface. If you later move to WordPress with Elementor, the transition is painless because the mental model is the same.

Matrix is far more flexible for design. You get features Squarespace doesn't offer out of the box — a true mega menu, one-page navigation, fluid custom layouts, and especially rich, modern animations — all with a no-code, visual workflow.

Matrix combines Webflow-level design and animation, an Elementor-style page builder, and Jimdo's easy hosting — all no-code. It's flexible enough for professionals, simple enough for beginners, and a natural stepping stone if you ever move to WordPress.

  Page Builder

It's a jQuery-free, drag-and-drop builder for Jimdo. You create sections, resizable columns, and widgets such as headings, text, images, buttons, dividers, and HTML — all with live editing. See the Page Builder guide for details.

Yes. The Jimdo Module widget lets you place any native Jimdo module — such as forms, product grids, and galleries — inside a Page Builder column. It shows a preview card in the editor and relocates the real module on the public page.

Yes. Layouts adapt to mobile, tablet, and desktop, and you can control the visibility of any element per device.

  Style Editor

The Style Editor is a visual tool for site-wide styling: colors, header, navigation, footer, buttons, typography, and decorative edge shapes — all without writing CSS.

Yes. Set your palette and typography once in the Style Editor and it applies consistently across every page of your site.

  Templates

Yes. Matrix Framework includes Template Selection: open the Style Editor, click the template button in the header, and browse pre-designed templates with visual previews. Click any preview to apply it instantly, then hit Save.

There are 32 in total — 17 default templates (such as Alsten, Lemberg, Zion, and Bergen) and 15 pre-built templates for specific use cases (Corporation, Creative Studio, Beauty Spa, Hotel, Photography, and more). Templates load from a CDN, so you always get the latest versions without an update.

Only if you want it to. Turn on Lock Global Colors and Lock Custom CSS in the popup to keep your palette and CSS when you apply a new template. With the locks off, the new template's colors and CSS replace your current ones. Your lock choices are remembered between sessions.

Set templateSelection: true in your MatrixConfig. A template button then appears in the Style Editor header, ready to open the picker.

  Widgets & Variables

Matrix Variables let you apply pre-defined utility classes and inline styles — such as padding, background, borders, shadows, and full-width — to any Jimdo module using simple tags, without editing a CSS file.

The Matrix Library lets you pick ready-made Widgets, Page Blocks, and Add-ons from a popup and insert them straight into your Jimdo HTML/Widget module — no copy-paste. A Lock content option keeps your existing text and images while applying the new widget's structure and styling.

  One-Page Navigation

One-Page Navigation turns your first-level menu items into smooth-scroll anchors on the home page, so you can build a complete single-page website. Your menu keeps its normal Jimdo page URLs, and Matrix automatically converts them to in-page links whenever a matching section exists.

Enable the feature in your configuration, then on the home page add a One-Page Section for each first-level menu item from the module map, and publish. No coding or manual HTML required.

Yes. As visitors scroll, the active section is highlighted in the menu (scroll-spy). Sub-pages keep working as normal dropdown pages, and it works on both desktop and mobile — the mobile overlay closes automatically after a tap.

  Site Health & SEO

Site Health is an admin-only scanner in the Matrix Toolbar. It checks the page you're editing for SEO, mobile, and framework issues, gives a 0–100 score, and offers one-click fixes.

Yes. Site Health flags missing meta descriptions, heading structure problems, missing image alt text, favicon issues, and more, so you can fix them before you publish.

  Compatibility

Matrix works with Jimdo Creator. It does not work with Jimdo Dolphin.

Yes. The Plugin Toolkit installs on any default Jimdo template. Matrix One and Matrix Framework use their own custom layouts for more advanced designs.

Matrix One is built on jQuery for its proven animations and plugins, while Matrix Framework is written in pure vanilla JavaScript for better performance. You choose the approach that fits your project.

Yes. The Plugin Toolkit layers on top of your current Jimdo site, so you don't need to rebuild from scratch.

Yes. It runs on your own Jimdo site and doesn't add third-party tracking, so it fits GDPR-conscious workflows.

  Pricing & refunds

Yes. The Plugin Toolkit is free to install and explore, including the documentation sections and main widgets. Unlocking all sections and widgets requires a Pro upgrade.

Pro unlocks all sections and widgets, plus ongoing updates and direct support from the developer.

Yes. There's no risk — if it's not what you expected, you can request a refund.

Yes. There's no limit on the number of websites, so freelancers and agencies can use Matrix across all their client projects.

After installing the Plugin Toolkit, you'll find the upgrade section inside the Matrix admin menu. Check the pricing page for current plans.
